Our Academics & Programs

Welcome to Browning Elementary Dual Language and Global Academy.

Here at Browning Dual Language Academy,   all students entering in our prekindergarten, kindergarten, and first grade classes experience a rich language program that consists of 50% of the instructional day in English and 50% in Spanish.  Dual language programs foster bilingualism, bi-literacy, enhanced awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity, and high levels of academic achievement through instruction in two languages.

Our highly qualified teachers work together everyday to ensure that the scholars are engaged in higher level thinking activities in both languages.

Browning Elementary is a New Education System (NES) campus.

HISD launched the NES at 28 historically underperforming campuses in the 2023-2024 academic year. At that time, another 57 schools asked to be included in the NES; for the current year, these are known as NES-aligned (NES-A) campuses. In the coming year, HISD will not have a distinction between NES and NES-A schools. There will only be two kinds of campuses: NES and non-NES.

An additional 45 schools joined  NES in the 2024-2025 academic year. This includes 26 schools that were required to join based on school letter grades of F (rating of 59 or below) or low D (rating of 60 to 64) as calculated using 2022-2023 state accountability data and the Texas Education Agency’s methodology.

The figure also includes 19 schools that voluntarily joined the NES. They were eligible to participate based on their school letter grade of high D (65 to 69). The principals of these schools opted into the NES after gathering feedback from staff, families, and members of their schools’ Shared Decision-Making Committees.
